DEEPWOOD FARM

Summer Camp

A learning experience treasured for years.

Deepwood Farm Summer Camp program has many opportunities for young persons who want to find themselves surrounded by horses and horse people. Each camper is assigned their own horse for a weekand will learn basic horse handling, care and grooming.

Every morning we hold classes on subjects such as barn management, first aid and preparing a horse for a show. You will learn how to clip, groom and braid in various styles in the grooming and showmanship classes. In addition, we may cover bandaging for trailering and proper loading techniques, as well as more of the many other "on the ground" horse maintenance skills.

In the mornings you will ride in lessons with 2 to 3 other campers. Lessons are geared to the level of riding of campers. If you are a beginner you will make excellent progress. If you are a more advanced rider, you will ride with others at you rlevel in lessons appropriated to your abilities.

The afternoon brings a wonderful trail ride with much beauty. The horses enjoy walking down the country roads, through the wooded trails and across the streams in this special corner of Western Maine. Youth campers and advanced campers enjoy an overnight stay in the White Mountain National Forest as the highlight of the week. We ride the horses to the campsite which has been set up with tents. We have a cookout for the evening meal. Later we take the horses to a near by pond for a drink before settling in for the night and after breakfast the next morning, we ride back to Deepwood Farm.

Everything at Deepwood Farm has a horse focus, including the crafts and games that are part of the day.

As we have a limit of 8 campers per session, it is advisable to sign up early. The ratio for helpers at kids camp is 1 to 3 while children are handling & grooming their horses. Safety is First!

We have overnight rates for campers who wish to come for a full stay at Deepwood farm. Please feel free to call with any questions you may have at (207) 824-2595 or email us at dianne@oxfordnetworks.net.
